President Joe Biden condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s lust for power and highlighted NATO’s strengthened unity. While Ukraine did not receive an invitation for immediate NATO membership, a joint declaration by G7 nations promised long-term protection, military support, financial aid, intelligence sharing, and immediate action if Russia were to attack again. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called it a “meaningful success,” despite expressing desires for a membership timeline. The summit also witnessed discussions on economic stability, cyber defense, and bilateral negotiations. The Kremlin, however, criticized the security guarantees, considering them a dangerous mistake that threatens Russia’s national security.
Thanks to Vilnius for hosting our historic #NATOSummit. We agreed to strengthen #NATO’s deterrence & defence, invest more in defence, bring #Ukraine closer to NATO membership, and deepen our partnerships around the world even more. We are more united than ever. pic.twitter.com/4eS70CCw44
