Thousands of Israelis took to the streets, blocking roads and staging demonstrations to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s plans aimed at limiting the power of the judiciary. The “Day of Resistance” saw protesters rallying against the proposed law that would strip courts of their ability to overturn government decisions. Demonstrators oppose limiting the Supreme Court’s powers, fearing greater government overreach and erosion of democracy. Police arrest dozens as tensions rise. Concurrently, activists appeal to the United States to intervene. Further protests are planned, including strikes by public hospitals and clinics, and threats of reservists’ withdrawal from duty. The government maintains its stance to improve democracy and elected officials’ autonomy.
