Archaeologists make a stunning find off Italy’s coast, an ancient Roman cargo ship dating back more than 2,000 years. The shipwreck, located near Rome’s port of Civitavecchia, lies at a depth of 160 meters, holding hundreds of well-preserved amphorae, Roman terracotta jars. Estimated to be over 20 meters long and hailing from the 1st or 2nd century BC, the vessel provides insights into historic maritime trade routes. Authorities, including Italy’s Carabinieri police’s art squad, have documented the discovery using a remotely operated robot. Future efforts to recover the precious cargo from the sea floor are yet to be decided.
