In a significant diplomatic effort, Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor, engaged in candid discussions with China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, over the weekend in Malta. These talks aimed to mend strained relations between the world’s two largest economies, primarily centered on trade disputes and escalating tensions in the Pacific region.

One key issue at the forefront of these discussions was Taiwan, a democratic island that China claims as its own territory.
