In a heartbreaking incident, eleven lives were lost when the roof of a school gymnasium collapsed in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province, China. The tragedy occurred due to the illegal placement of perlite, a volcanic glass, on the roof during construction. Heavy rain caused the perlite to expand and weigh down, leading to the catastrophic collapse. A rescue operation involving 160 firefighters was carried out, with four survivors pulled from the debris. Investigations are underway, and those responsible are in police custody.
