Despite an early lead of 6-2, 3-0 for Swiatek, Muchova mounted a strong comeback, creating tension for the world number one. Swiatek’s composure wavered momentarily as she faced a break in the deciding set. However, she regained her focus at a critical juncture and won the final three games, sealing her victory.

The post-match celebrations were not without their share of surprises and excitement. Just moments after being presented with the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen, the trophy awarded to the French Open women’s champion, Swiatek experienced a moment of panic when the lid flew off the trophy while she was celebrating. With a smile, Swiatek attributed the incident to her overflowing emotions. She expressed relief that the trophy remained undamaged and humorously added that she hoped to have the opportunity to hold it again in future years.
Swiatek’s win at the French Open further solidifies her dominance on the WTA Tour. She took over the world number one ranking last year, succeeding the retired Ashleigh Barty, and has held the top spot for 62 consecutive weeks. This season, Swiatek faced stiff competition from the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, the Australian Open champion from Belarus, and Elena Rybakina, the Wimbledon winner from Kazakhstan. The trio, collectively referred to as the emerging ‘big three’ of the WTA, have won the past five majors and have been leading the tour. Swiatek, however, remains focused on her own game and consistently performs at a high level.
Clay has proven to be Swiatek’s specialty, and she showcased her prowess throughout the tournament. In the final, she appeared to be heading for an easy victory before Muchova fought back, making it a more closely contested match. Swiatek’s ability to stay calm and rely on her intuition in the decisive moments helped her secure the win.
With this victory, Swiatek becomes the youngest woman since Monica Seles in the early 1990s to win consecutive Roland Garros titles. Tournament director Amelie Mauresmo expressed her belief that Swiatek has the potential to win many more titles and even surpass Rafael Nadal’s record of 14 French Open titles. However, Swiatek remains focused on her development as a player and does not set lofty goals for herself.
The French Open victory marks Swiatek’s fourth Grand Slam title, adding to her 2020 French Open and 2022 Australian Open triumphs, as well as her 2021 US Open win. Her remarkable success at such a young age places her in the esteemed company of Serena Williams, who also had four Grand Slam titles by the age of 22.
Swiatek’s win at Roland Garros solidifies her position as one of the top talents in women’s tennis. Her consistency and remarkable performances on clay courts have established her as a force to be reckoned with. As the grass-court season commences, Swiatek’s ranking will once again come under pressure, but she remains focused on her own game, aiming to continue her success in future tournaments.
